STEM activities

Why STEM

• Preschool is the perfect time to cultivate positive attitudes.

• Very young children are quite capable of doing science.

• Preschoolers are natural scientists.

• Preschool is the perfect time to develop STEM skills.

Our Approach

Our customized hands-on activities will not only kick start your child's interest in science, it also serves as a catalyst for the development of his or her cognitive skills such as critical and sequential thinking, as well as inference and observations skills which are boosters for overall success in today's world.

Through our integrated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) thematic approach, our young scientists will embark on a though provoking journey that will change their perception of classroom science to that of a magical and lasting one.

Our Process

Our friendly teachers will be presenting the simplified concepts of each activity using visual aids and real life examples before the children start on the hands-on activities. Most of them are take-home products, something all our children look forward to every week. After every activity, an "Activity Log" is to be filled so children can document observations and inferences. This is coupled with an “After Action Review” to summarize the entire session.

Augmented Reality

To top it up, we will also be incorporating Augmented Reality (3D Imagery) into our programme to enhance the visual aspect of learning through interaction and a touch of the latest technology.

Framework

Science

Sensory Exploration

Science experiments introduce children to new skills like observation, description and replication of an action to compare findings.

In our STEM curriculum, Science is used to promote inquisition in children. Besides scientific knowledge, such experiments also cultivate a mindset that is based on causality, inferences, hypothesising and testing.

Technology & Engineering

Perceptual Motor Devt • Cognitive Thinking • Mental Dexterity

Technology in STEM refers to the usage of simple tools to develop and enhance a child's motor skills. Hand-eye coordination, an important and largely beneficial skill, is refined throughout the process. Children also strengthen their finger and hand muscles which are crucial for basic yet essential activities like writing, typing and drawing. In addition, Technology related activities will help children improve their visual classification and sensory motor skills.

Engineering activities boost brain development; children are given a problem and must use the provided materials to design and create a solution that works. Critical and creative thinking are the targeted avenues for development in such an activity. Children are given problems to solve; by solving problems we facilitate their minds to think out of the box, to have nimbleness of wit and imagination; hence increasing the dexterity of a child’s mind.

Mathematics

Logical Conception

Sorting and counting are effective and fun ways to develop logic and learn basic math skills. Through play with blocks, colors, and shapes, children begin to learn concepts such as classification and sequencing. These mathematical thinking skills inculcate a strong sense of logic in children, which is essential in problem solving, analysis and evaluation. Hence, Mathematics is a supporting pillar for Technology and Engineering elements in our STEM curriculum.

Arts & Languages

Creative Expression • Linguistic & Social Devt

The Arts serve as a medium for creative expression which is essential for holistic self development. Through our activities, children are given freedom to design, build and create various structures and crafts.

Languages play the main role in communication which is key to all forms of learning. In every class, we encourage children to vocalise their thoughts and observations pertaining to the actvity.
